OCRE Y TÉ begins with the brightness of sun-warmed citrus before softening into steeped tea, shaded moss and warm woods.

Relaxed, golden and quietly transporting - it captures the feeling of arriving just as the light begins to change.

Inspired by Andalusia

OCRE Y TÉ brings together ocre - ochre, an earthy pigment long associated with Mediterranean architecture, landscape and decorative art - with té, meaning tea.

Its colour and fragrance evoke the golden warmth of a sun-drenched Andalusian courtyard in late afternoon: brightness and heat giving way to depth, shade and stillness.

The fragrance is produced in Grasse, France, exclusively for Botanical Matrix. The candle is hand-poured in the UK using natural wax.

A Sequence of Light

OCRE Y TÉ is the first chapter in A Sequence of Light - a fragrance collection inspired by the changing atmosphere of one perfect Mediterranean evening.

Each chapter pairs a traditional pigment with a botanical ingredient. Together, the fragrances follow the light through different parts of the same Andalusian sanctuary.

Chapter One: Golden Hour

The warmth of late afternoon. The pool, the citrus trees and the feeling of arriving as sunlight turns everything to ochre and gold.

The story will continue through Crimson Hour, as the sun slips below the horizon, and into Blue Hour, when the evening moves to a secluded garden beneath the stars.

The Vessel

OCRE Y TÉ is presented in a substantial, heavy-based glass vessel, with its bespoke botanical illustration printed directly onto the glass.

Designed to be kept long after the candle has finished, the vessel can be reused as a decorative object or paired with the forthcoming OCRE Y TÉ refill.

Candle Care

A carefully made candle deserves considered care. Following these simple steps will help OCRE Y TÉ burn beautifully and safely.

Before Lighting

Place the candle upright on a stable, level and heat-resistant surface. Protect delicate materials such as wood or marble with a suitable candle plate or tray.

Keep the candle away from draughts, flammable materials, children and pets.

Before each burn, gently remove the charred portion of the wooden wick and ensure the wax is free from wick fragments, matches and other debris.

The First Burn

On the first burn, allow the wax to melt evenly across the entire surface before extinguishing the flame. Establishing a complete melt pool helps prevent tunnelling and encourages an even burn throughout the life of the candle.

Do not burn the candle for more than four hours at a time.

While Burning

Never leave a burning candle unattended.

Keep the candle away from draughts and do not move it while it is lit or while the wax and glass vessel remain hot.

If burning more than one candle, leave at least 10cm between them to prevent uneven burning or overheating.

After Each Burn

Extinguish the flame carefully, preferably using a candle snuffer. Allow the wax and glass vessel to cool completely before touching or moving the candle.

Once cool, gently remove the charred portion of the wooden wick before relighting.

When to Stop

Discontinue use when approximately 5mm of wax remains at the base of the vessel or the wick sustainer becomes visible. Continuing to burn the candle beyond this point may cause the glass to overheat.

Always follow the safety information supplied with the candle.

Storage

Store the candle upright in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and significant changes in temperature. This will help protect the wax, fragrance and illustrated glass vessel.
